Democrats Choose McCord for Treasurer Bid

Rob McCord, a Montgomery County venture capitalist, easily defeated three opponents yesterday to become the Democratic nominee for state treasurer.

Thanks to name recognition built up through a massive TV ad campaign, McCord held off his closest rival, John Cordisco, the Bucks County Democratic Party chairman.

State Rep. Jennifer Mann of Allentown finished third, while Dennis Morrison-Wesley of Harrisburg, a former investment salesman, trailed the field, according to unofficial statewide results.

Pennsylvania state Senate candidate Larry Farnese has received the endorsement of the Liberty City Lesbian and Gay Democratic Club.

Farnese, who was endorsed Monday night, faces two Democratic opponents, electricians union leader John Dougherty and political activist Anne Dicker, in the April 22 primary to represent the First Senate District. The district has a significant gay and lesbian population.

The Liberty City group also voted to endorse Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for president, and announced that it would co-sponsor a presidential forum at 7:45 p.m. tomorrow at Woody’s, a gay bar on 13th Street near Walnut Street.  read more »

Challenge to Mann's candidacy dropped

A court challenge to the nominating petitions for a candidate for state treasurer is now closed.

The Commonwealth Court ruling issued Tuesday keeps state Rep. Jennifer Mann on the April primary ballot.

The Lehigh County Democrat’s petitions had been challenged by John Lisko, the campaign manager for Mann’s opponent Rob McCord.

A challenge that Lisko filed against another Democrat in the primary, Dennis Morrison-Wesley, is scheduled for a court hearing on Friday.

The fourth candidate in the race is John F. Cordisco.

Republican Tom Ellis is unopposed for his party’s nomination.

State Rep. Jennifer Mann will seek the Democratic nomination for state treasurer this spring.

The veteran Allentown Democrat put an end to the will-she-or-won’t-she speculation in a telephone interview this evening.

Democratic state treasurer candidate Rob McCord finished out 2007 with a staggering $3 million in his campaign accounts, records filed with the Department of State have shown.

McCord raised $1.7 million between June 23 and Dec. 31. He spent $110,619 of the $3.2 million available to him. He reported $7,692 worth of in-kind contributions, in which a good or service, but not cash, changes hands, and $1.2 million in debt, mostly in the form of loans from McCord to his campaign.  read more »
