State Police May Scale Back Casino Presence

The Pennsylvania State Police might have to cease their 24-hour presence at slot-machine parlors because of money issues.

State police commander Col. Jeffrey Miller informed state lawmakers of the development Tuesday.

“I don’t think that we should be operating that way, but I don’t have any other choice at this point in time,” Miller said during a hearing on the state’s ability to handle winter storms.

State Police in Casinos

Why would State Police be in a private casino 24 hours a day? What would the purpose be. To keep them honest? Surely not for security that would be the casino’s concern. When we visited the Meadows we couldn’t figure out why there are about 10 parking places designated for State Police.

The police are there

The police are there because the casino security does not have arrest powers and do not conduct criminal investigations. I would assume the parking spaces are there so the the police have a place to park, duh.
