Forgery: Dead Man Signs Bebko-Jones Petitions

A statewide grand jury yesterday accused a former Erie legislator and her chief of staff of forging the signatures on her 2006 nominating petitions.

Linda Bebko-Jones, a Democrat who served seven terms in the state House, and Mary Fiolek, who ran Mrs. Bebko-Jones’s office and oversaw her campaigns, face arraignment in Harrisburg next week.

A statewide grand jury sitting in Pittsburgh said the pair combed an Erie telephone directory as well as Mrs. Bebko-Jones’s personal address book to put together 300 signatures needed to get on the primary ballot.

Special Agent Jack Brickner of the state attorney general’s office told grand jurors that he questioned persons whose names appeared on the petitions.

“Agent Brickner was unable to find a single individual who stated that they had signed the petitions,” grand jurors wrote in their presentment. “A number explicitly stated they had not signed and stated the signatures thereon were not their own. In one case, an individual who purportedly signed one of the petitions on March 3, 2006, had been deceased since April 15, 2000.”

Is Tony Payton really that stupid???

I was looking some of the blog’s at http://www.phillyblog.com/philly/politics/52294-17…
and saw that Payton signed as the circulator on two petitions that had over 8 dead people on it, meaning he went around and got each signature. What is going on with this so called “progressive” member? Does he not have any base in the 179th district. One would think after 14 months in office you would not have to forge signatures!

Interesting

That’s really interesting. I hadn’t seen that blog post, though I didn’t see any images of the petitions in question. I always like to have evidence.

trust

this is why you really have to trust the people who pass your petitions. Their integrity is critical.

He signed as the circulator!

What are you saying…. You cannot trust one’s self… Payton signed as the circulator and had it notarized stating he personlly over saw each signature on at least 100 signatures… Well Payton, I’ve never seen a dead person sign a petition; how exactly did you get their signatures?? I’m dying to find out…

It's all over the internet!! Payton is a Fraud...

Greg,

I know it is posted on that blog, because I didn’t believe it until I saw it last night… Look at this blog hyperlink.. http://www.phillyblog.com/philly/northeast-philly/...

They probably voted for him as well

The voters in question probably voted for him in the last election as well. He is counting on them this time around.

Can dead people vote?? Payton seem to think so...

He signed as the circulator, meaning he went and grathered all the signatures on the petitions posted at http://www.phillyblog.com/philly/northeast-philly/..... That’s over 100 forged names… Does he have no bases in the 179th district?? Well he just lost my support…

Why didn't they prosecute anyone for the forged

Nader petitions back in 2004?
