The real point is that Senator Casey backed the man who will eventually be the Democratic nominee and perhaps the next president. That’s worth a lot more than a bit of bruising in his home state. No big deal.
On the surface, U.S. Sen. Bob Casey looks like one of the biggest losers in the Democratic presidential contest. The state’s junior senator backed Sen. Barack Obama — and traveled with him across the state — and Obama lost by 9 percentage points to Sen. Hillary Clinton statewide. In Lackawanna, Casey’s home county, Clinton crushed Obama by a 74 percent to 26 percent margin.
Casey “proved why presidential candidates want gubernatorial endorsements and couldn’t care less about senators,” said Larry Sabato, a political science professor at the University of Virginia.
“Governors control many thousands of votes and senators usually control their 20 staffers — and about half the time, their spouses.”

Ever if Casey were to suffer a bit at home for this,
which I’m not sure that he will, it certainly raised his national profile.
Bob Casey is the Unibrower
I like Bob Casey’s 1 eyebrow.
It’s so cool how it goes across his entire forehead
like that.
Casey defied conventional wisdom...and will prosper for it.
Casey shook himself free of his “Hermetic Bob” (coined by Micek?) image. Most will say he was not going to pull for Clinton anyway, but I think a lot of people expected him to sit this out. That is, play it safe.
The guy took a chance here. That is a good thing. I like his bravado and his choice in Obama. I also love the political contradictions. Casey is a conservative Democrat and Obama is certainly not considered such. Casey can now say he has risen above labels and is banking on Obama’s hope and vision for America’s future.
Bob, I voted for you against that fat puke Rendell in the primary way back. I like where you stand politically, even more so today. Keep up the good work.

I understand it all depends
I understand it all depends on who your favorite candidate is and my question has nothing to do with that. My question is general in nature, so please don’t respond with a bunch of I hate Rendell remarks. My question is why is Bob Casey a hero for standing with Obama and Rendell is a demon for standing with Clinton, when both have the same motive…to move on to a Washington position when their candidate become President?
Rendell can't move on to a Washington position
At least not until 2011. Why? Catherine Baker Knoll:

Is she crazy? Senile? Both?
Hahaha
Yes, we’d like him to stick around I think.
Alternative
If the the alternative is Baker-Knoll, Rendell has to stick around. I’ll personally run down to H’burg and strap him to his chair if that’s what it takes to keep him there. How in the hell did Baker-Knoll ever rise to this level of government. She reminds me of that actor that played Danny Divito’s mother in Throw Momma From The Train. I don’t believe all those guys she accused of being women haters actually hate women, I believe they just hate her. A former president was about to be introduced to the crowd. Did she think for one second anyone cared she was there.
Rendell
Can’t people just hate Rendell because he is terrible Governor? The guy has done more harm to the Democratic party than good.
On a side note: I think most Dems will vote for the Democratic candidate come fall, whether it is Obama or Clinton.
and
I think the republicans will vote for John McCain in the fall. I laugh when i hear about all of the republicans defecting to the Democrat side of the fence. Tells me one thing, they were NEVER true conservatives to begin with. Obama = Socialism
Obama
Obama is the republican that the republicans promised years ago. Ask yourself WHY do the republicans want to face Hillary if Obama is so far left wing? The answer is that he is not. If Obama was so far left wing the republican should be chomping at the bit to face him and not Hillary if they really believed they had the high ground.
The Democratic race has for
The Democratic race has for the most part confused the Republicans and they are really not sure which way to go. The majority of Republican insiders are not comfortable with McCain and are not sure which Democrat they would rather face. This false preference in the Democrat they would rather face is nothing more than an attempt to show that they are in control of their destiny and have a plan, when in fact they are running scared. They are facing two very strong Democratic challengers, their candidate carries, in actuality, so little support of the Republican power base that he only looks good when compared to George Bush, that the RNC had to show that they had this clever plan. The only candidate the Republicans feel confident about facing is the Democratic runner in 2020 when, hopefully, the Iraq War is over and forgotten.
McCain is weak
Yes, I agree with this but it’s not common wisdom. McCain is not a strong candidate for the GOP and despite the media’s spin, the Democratic race has not yet hurt the party. It’s helped focus attention on our two candidates at the expense of the GOP.
Most standing Presidents
Most standing Presidents are terrible, most standing Senators are terrible, most standing Representives are terrible, most Boards of Education are terrible, most county councils are terrible…......it’s a sign of the times…...just like 100 years ago and just like 100 years from now.
Rendell no Hero, No Villian Either
Rendell’s support of HRC was his prerogative and I support his right to do so. However, when he legitimized Fox news by going on the RNC spin machine and saying “Fox news has been the most fair and balanced in this race.” It made me realize that despite the HRC’s campaigns ability to pull off this win, by nearly exactly the margin expected, they do not have the vision to win in November. They can’t win in November because they are playing into the Republican rhetoric, and if you don’t change the national dialogue then Democrats are positioned for defeat again in November. The HRC playbook is 10 years too old and they may not remember this is the playbook that brought us Newt Gingrich and a GOP majority in the House and Senate. Sure the 90’s were great but that’s no reason not to have learned something since then. Personally I don’t think the HRC campaign thinks she can win, they are positioning to cripple Obama and then come in as the great “white” hope in 2012. Kudos the Clinton’s have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
It seems to me...
that Sen. Casey made a lot of friends in liberal Philadelphia circles by backing Sen. Obama.
Plus, it helps PA to have its two major statewide elected officials backing the two different candidates — hedging the state’s bets, so to speak.
