The jury couldn’t reach a decision on any of 41 counts?!?
A federal judge declared a mistrial Tuesday in the fraud case against celebrity pathologist Cyril Wecht, who was accused of using his staff at the county coroner’s office to do work for his lucrative private practice.Federal prosecutors said they were immediately ready to retry Wecht, 76, who gained fame by inquiring into the deaths of well-known figures including Elvis Presley, JonBenet Ramsey and Vincent Foster. U.S. District Judge Arthur Schwab set a new trial date for May 27.
Schwab made the announcement after the jury, for the second time, gave him a note saying it was deadlocked and could not reach a decision on any of the 41 counts against Wecht. Jurors deliberated for more than 50 hours over 11 days after the seven-week trial.

Shows how poor Buchanan's case was
Wecht’s lawyers did not even present a defense and yet got a hung jury. That’s how poor this case was. And now, Mary Beth Buchanan is going to retry this case at the end of May. Talk about a waste of taxpayer money.

Political vendetta
Like all Bush acolytes, she’s more than willing to waste money if it serves their political purposes!
Wecht is certainly a strange, duplicitous guy, with an ego that never stops…but this should just stop.

Politicized Judiciary
Wow! 41 counts and no convictions. Sounds like the judge in Louisiana and the ex-governor in Alabama. Bogus charges to do political harm to bush/rove enemies. Wonder how Wecht crossed the bushies…
Cyril Wecht trial is a waste of money
Either we have here an inept prosecution or there is no evidence worthy of producing a conviction. At this point, there is no third possibility. Enough is enough….leave the guy alone and stop wasting our tax money.

The Trib got a few jurors to speak to them about the deliberations:

They said the majority was for acquittal.

From the daily reports in
From the daily reports in the newspapers, the government’s case seemed underwhelming at best in terms of showing a Federal crime, as distinct from some issues that should have been dealt with by other means. The government should call it a day and put the taxpayer’s resources to better use.
