Candidate Chris Hackett pays back-taxes

Republican Congressional candidate Chris Hackett resolved lingering back-tax issues with one of his Luzerne County businesses days after winning the GOP primary.

Democrats criticized Mr. Hackett during his primary battle against Dan Meuser for the nearly $17,000 in outstanding state taxes listed against Workforce Solutions Inc. at the Luzerne County Courthouse.

Mr. Hackett provided documentation Tuesday showing he had started settling the matter against his company in early Fall 2007, after disputing with the state’s tax office for years.

The $16,915 lien, filed Aug. 12, 2004, is still listed as outstanding at the county courthouse.

Mr. Hackett paid the commonwealth $14,966 on May 1 for interest, finalizing the lien against Workforce, according to a letter Mr. Hackett provided from the state’s attorney dated May 7.
