Morganelli: Bonusgate Riddled With Conflicts of Interest

Republican Attorney General Tom Corbett won’t step aside from investigating GOP leaders, despite a political opponent’s accusation that Corbett’s “conflicts of interest” could jeopardize a grand jury investigation into legislative bonuses.

Corbett spokesman Kevin Harley said Wednesday the office is investigating Republicans and Democrats in the House and Senate, and “Tom Corbett will follow the evidence wherever it leads.” ...

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli, a Democrat announcing his candidacy for attorney general, said Corbett is “mired in conflicts of interest as he tries to do a balancing act between investigating public corruption while at the same time not offending political and financial supporters.”

The coming months will reveal all.

Sounds like Morganelli is a very, typical politician: full of sound and fury but signifying nothing. He’s commenting on an ongoing investigation based on what the newspapers are telling him. It’s obvious that he is doing so to make Corbett look biased and part of the same corruption he is investigating.

Lord knows that if people rely 100% on the press for their information without digesting the information first, that they may as well believe in Santa Claus, Intelligent Design, and the Land of the Lost. Smart people know that the press can barely get a story right even when they are spoon fed information. With a few exceptions (like John Micek), reporters can be pretty lazy creatures. Readers need to be critical thinkers and read between the lines.

Give Corbett the benefit of the doubt and let the man do his job. Jump on him after you have all the facts.

Long running

The Corbett investigation has been going on since March of 2007. The grand jury started in April / May. Accusations of partisan preference against the investigation were made to the press in September / October, with mumurings long before that.

How long must we wait?

Long running for good reason

This isn’t Law and Order or CSI bub, the bad guys aren’t getting caught in less than an hour. As for the accusations of partisan bias. Gimme a break, it’s Harrisburg. Everything up there is judged as being partisan so why should this be viewed any differently.

Tom Corbett doing the right thing

Deweese tries to avert attention by little boys ploy. This is the big times, the Attorney General just didn’t wake up one day and said today I am going after the Deweese.Someone turned him in,and once this is done Mr.Tom Corbett must do what the law requires.Mr. Deweese is damaged goods, all who are to close will be investigated,I pray for there families, for no child wants to see, or should have to see, one of there parents doing time in the big house, for one so worthless.Vote for Greg Hopkins a glimmer of hope in such a depressed area.
