The Democratic senator from Philadelphia said he was not resigning early – he will stick by his plan to serve out his term, which ends this year. But he said he wanted to give his goodbyes because he did not believe he would be back in Harrisburg in the fall, when lawmakers return from summer break.
At that point, he will be fighting a raft of corruption charges awaiting him in federal court in Philadelphia. He is accused of using his position and staff to live lavishly at the expense of taxpayers – and of trying to block an FBI investigation into his conduct. His trial is scheduled to begin in early September.
“I will miss it terribly,” Fumo said of being in the Capitol. “I’ve spent half my life here, and I’ve spent it here with every fiber in my body. I’ve loved it, I’ve hated it, I’ve had great experiences and very sad ones.”

It is time for him to go!!!
When a politician stays in office too long he forgets who he is serving! A politician in this instant serves the people of his or her district and no one else. A politician only serves the party he represents up to a point then he should vote one way or another on what his constiuents really want! When a politian stays too long he forgets the fundemetal reason why they are serving in that position and end up seeking to enrich themselves in power and sometime for benefits the everyday constiuent never see’s. They subvert themselves to lobbyists, polls, and to the party rather than to the people. Some find it a way to get rich at the expense of whom they serve. Fumo is innocent until proven guilty but when the FBI steps in and investigates the chages against Fumo they don’t take there job lightly and work to get to the truth no matter where it leads and they don’t bring chagres lightly. What Senator Fumo has forgotten is the people he serves and it would be better if he resign’s now instead of staying on in the Senate until January. If he is found guilty he will have to resign almost immedietly so why drag his seat with him into court it will not protect him from the law and it will embarras those he serves as well as the Consituiton he has sworn to uphold. It is time for him to resign and he should do so immediately!
I'm going with innocent until proven guilty
Not defending Fumo, but recent history has shown that the FBI can be ordered to investigate a speck of dirt – with little justification. The Bush DOJ is proof of that.
However, since he already resigned – and if he is unable to perform his job necessary to those is his district – than he needs to go.
The PA Legislture needs serious overhaul – term limits would be best but – open records to lobbying influence would be a good start.
It's the way Pennsylvania Government Works
Politicians are VERY aware of the personal gain when elected (that’s how business in Pennsylvania works) -As far as Fumo goes….don’t let the door hit you on the way out! Take a few more of them with you when you leave, please!
You cannot rationalize the graft-so don’t try. K?
The Bush DOJ is what should be investigated
Fumo is innocent until proven guilty and you should take note that his investigation started when Fumo started making public speeches against the war in IRAQ!
