The Republican-controlled state Senate on Wednesday put down its marker in this year’s budget debate, passing a spending plan that slashed nearly $118 million in basic education funding proposed by Gov. Ed Rendell.Senate GOP leaders insisted the 28-21 party-line vote was merely an attempt to meet a June 30 deadline to pass a new state budget and not an effort to derail negotiations between legislative leaders and the governor’s office.
The Senate-approved plan would increase spending by 2.8 percent to $27.9 billion for the fiscal year that starts July 1. The plan cuts more than $457 million from the governor’s proposal announced in February.
Rendell’s spending plan, as amended last week by the House Appropriations Committee, is $28.5 billion, an increase of 4.8 percent over current spending.

Cutting education funds
I guess this makes sense since the uneducated are more likely to fooled by Republican rhetoric.

On The Other Hand...
It’s a shame for Pennsylvania taxpayers that left-wing tripe always seems to be so damn pricey.
Our professional student
Our professional student chimes in to let us know how gullible even the seemingly educated are.

Gullibility 101 w/ Prof. pd
I see you’re still intent on attempting to deriding me with the “professional student” label, pd. Despite the fact that I’ve been out of school for several years, being a “professional student” isn’t all bad actually. You never really wish to stop learning. You, on the other hand, apparently gave up on that quest long ago…
Oops...
“Deriding” should be “deride”. Even “professional students” make errors from time to time. Hopefully our good prof pd won’t dock me too many points for this.
The plan Rendell put forward gives most money to Philadelphia
If you read the Newspapers there is more to this than meets the eye. The Governors plan would give an average of 1.5% to most Districts in the state while 9.6% goes to Philadelphia. This is the main reason why the Republicans are putting up a fight in the Senate. It is about time someone stopped Fast Eddie from spending more of the State Budget on his city than the rest of the State. We are also heading into a recession and we have to bring spending down now or else after Rendell leaves Office he will leave the state in a big financial mess.
