DeWeese Drops Libel Lawsuit Against Newspaper

Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Bill DeWeese has dropped a libel lawsuit against a newspaper over commentaries and caricatures concerning a $12.5 million fund he controls.

The Herald-Standard of Uniontown accused DeWeese of breaking a promise to account for how he spends the taxpayer-funded leadership account.

DeWeese, D-Greene, maintained that he promised the newspaper’s editorial board only to lobby for changes in the law that would require the records to be released.

According to the settlement, DeWeese will be given space in the newspaper to write a column about the purpose of the lawsuit, and his legislative and reform efforts, including those relating to open records laws.

Rep. Mahoney is the darling of the Herald Standard. I wonder if he helped DeWeese smooth the ruffled feathers. It might be quid pro quo for DeWeese giving Mahoney top billing on Open Records legislation in the house a few months back.

The Herald Standard “was one of last voices of Democracy” in southwestern PA. But they to have lost there substance, and have abandoned the honest residents of the 50 district,all for Mr.Dollar Bill. What happen to truth, honesty, and the integrity of reporting the NEWS? Is the pressure of the establishment that much? Now that you have given domain to the COFFIN DRAGER Deweese.
