Bonusgate: Corbett Extends Subpoenas to House Republicans

State Attorney General Tom Corbett has subpoenaed personnel records from House Republicans, possibly as part of an ongoing probe of bonuses paid to legislative employees at the end of the 2005-06 session.

Steve Miskin, a spokesman for House Minority Leader Sam Smith, R-Jefferson, said the records were subpoenaed by Corbett’s office Monday night. GOP lawmakers were told of the action during a caucus meeting Tuesday afternoon.

Miskin could not say whether the documents were sought in connection with Corbett’s investigation of approximately $3.4 million in bonuses to legislative staffers. The documents will be turned over soon, perhaps today, Miskin said.

Corbett the True

I suppose this helps assuage the concerns of those who felt Corbett was playing the role of GOP hatchet man? Corbett’s genuine attempt to hack away at corruption in Harrisburg extends beyond party. If his peek into the House GOP’s payment practices yields some bad apples, let them be thrown onto the rotten cart along with their Democrat brethren.

investigate true corruption

Corrbett hopefully will start looking into the Carpenters Union spending and how the officers on the health and benefit Carpenters fund in Pittsburg is handeling all those millions of dollars. He should also be looking into how the Local 214 Carpenters are giving health insurance to non members of the union and else where in Pa.Most likely the the fund managers will continue to get a free pass if they keep spreading around the money the rank-n-file member has to pay!
