Alternate headline: Two rich white dudes fight to be Republican nominee.
Republican 10th Congressional candidates Chris Hackett and Dan Meuser have spent more than $1.1 million on local television advertisements since January, paid for largely with their own money.Between April 1 and this Tuesday, nearly 10 hours — 1,166 30-second spots — of advertisements about the 10th District race will run on Wilkes-Barre/Scranton television stations, according to reports from WBRE-TV, WNEP-TV, WYOU-TV and WOLF-TV.
Hackett and Meuser competing for the GOP nomination in the April 22 primary to take on first-term incumbent Rep. Chris Carney, D-Dimock Township, this fall in the traditionally Republican district. The two businessmen from Luzerne County have loaned their campaign committees about $2 million combined, primarily for advertising expenses, according to Federal Election Commission reports.

Hackett/Meuser $
These two candidates have to loan their campaign committees money because they are primarily the only two people interested in their campaigns. Voters of the 10th are well aware the district has long been represented by a republican and have had enough. The majority of voters are willing to give Chris Carney at least one more term.
I still don’t get how
I still don’t get how someone will spend a million of their own money to go make 150K a year for two years. ??????? Smart investment. No wonder the country is in the shape it is with spending and debt out of control. Would you hand an investment banker a lump sum of money hoping to lose 70 percent of it over two years?
No Surprise!
The problem you are having is in comprehending someone who really believes in something. When you are genuine and have a strong conviction, it might just cause you to do something that will require sacrifice. But in a world where most people only look out for themselves, they can only observe and say, “Duuhhh?”
The real deal
I think the reason Dan Meuser is willing to spend that much of his own money is that he sees it as an investment in America.
So many people have gone to washington and became a “face in the crowd”.I think Meuser will “stand out in the crowd” and be a driving force to accomplish some of the problems that face our nation. He has a history of having a vision of accomplishing a goal and a plan to get there and that makes him the best choice in the election!

Meuser represents the tired old Reagan era republican. Always preaching morals and family values all while squeezing the middle class. And of course lower taxes and less government interference. Problem is the lower taxes means cutting spending on much needed federally funded programs and tax cuts for big business and the wealthy. The idea being the tax cuts will allow business to grow and create jobs. Problem is they don’t create jobs, they cut jobs and rake in huge profits by paying lower taxes. Less government interference is meant only for big business not individuals. The republican right is all about deregulating business and regulating individual rights. Meuser, like all right wing conservatives believe their way is the right way. Pushing their values and beliefs on the rest of America. Who is he kidding with that work hard – pray hard crap? I don’t need him or anyone else telling me what is morally right or wrong. The republican right sold out to big business decades ago. Meuser is just another self-rightous right-winger with nothing new to offer. It is in the best interest of the 10th to keep Chris Carney.

Couldn’t agree more, ditto,ditto,ditto!!!!!!!
Power, not money.
That’s what the investment bring you. Getting into Congress is a lot like getting into Yale or Harvard; you can practically live off it the rest of your life, based on the connections and perceived influence you can wield later.
Of course, you can also make a lot of money off that influence….so look at it (if you want to use the investment analogy) as a very good, long term investment in a growth industry…
