So this benefits Chris Carney beginning April 23rd, right?
The Millionaires’ Amendment is a provision of the McCain–Feingold Act that is designed to level the playing field if someone is able to spend large amounts of their own money in a federal election. If someone drops $350,000 of spare change into their own house campaign the contribution limits are tripled for the opponent and the national and state party’s may make unlimited coordinated expenditures on behalf of the candidate. This won’t affect the Republican primary but may impact the General Election. From the FEC filings it appears that Dan Meuser has spent $599,600 of his own money in the race and Chris Hackett has kept pace opening his wallet for $592300.

Innocent bystander says...
It’s doubtful that the dems will want to pump large amounts of money into this race. It was a gift last time.
Carney hasn’t exactly endeared himself to the dems, so don’t look for much help from them.
This seat goes back where it belongs, in the “R” column.
Really?
I think it’s recognized that he can’t always stand up with liberals on certain issues, but I don’t think there’s any animus in the party against him. Yeah, maybe the national party won’t pump much money in, but my sense is that people like him and he’ll hold on to his seat.
He may not have endeared himself, but...
A Dem in the seat is a Dem in the seat… It’s another voter for a Dem speaker, which is all the party should care about.
Better Dem
than “DUMB” in the seat!
Belong
How can a seat in any congressional district “belong” ot one of the parties? I’s say candidates need to earn it along with the voter’s trust.
Innocent bystander says...
I wish I could figure out how to get my name on one of these comments.
That being said, the seat “belongs” to the republicans based on a 60/40 voter margin, and the fact that the current seat holder stepped in Sherwood’s poop to get elected.
I live and vote in the 10th, how about the rest of you?
Live & Vote
I too live and vote in the 10th. That being said, I NEVER voted republican. Not Sherwood, Not McDade. I consider it to be my vote to take this area out of the dark ages. The republican base and congressional representation is the main reason this area never changes with the times. No jobs, no culture, just maintain the status quo. Just the same old backwoods, redneck, blue collar, coal cracker metality.
FDR (no, not that one)
live and vote
I too live and vote in the 10th district, and I have no clue what you are talking about with no culture. In Williamsport, there is the Community Arts Center which is constantly drawing big names and Williamsport was also named in the top 100 in music production, events, etc while Sherwood was rep. What has Carney done? In fact, what about those 100 hours the Democrats touted when they were running in 2006, it has been well over 100 hours and nothing substantial has been done.
Clue
You are correct, you don’t have a clue. The 10th district covers more than just Williamsport, and although the Community Arts Center is a fine venue, this area needs a great deal more before it can even claim to be a blip on the cultural or economic radar. Our legislators must work to make this area attractive to employers and potential employees. With all of the great colleges and universities in the area, it is a shame there is no incentive (jobs, culture)for graduates to stay in the area.
HOW
true! The seat is not a hereditary thing that is passed down from one Republican to another, I’d hope the people are smarter than that.
