Altmire/Hart Kicks Off With Attack Ad From Hart

Even April’s Pennsylvania Presidential primary might be tame in comparison. The opening shots of the 2008 race for Pennsylvania’s 4th Congressional seat have already been fired.

Former Republican Rep. Melissa Hart, in an effort to regain her seat from Democrat Rep. Jason Altmire, has produced one of the first attack ads of the 2008 U.S. campaign season. In the advertisement, an ominous voiceover says, “Jason Altmire has only been in Congress just 12 short months. But that’s all it’s taken to learn how big a tax-and-spender he really is.”

Hart and Rep. Altmire staged a close race for the suburban-Pittsburgh seat in 2006. But the new ad signals a bold change in tenor and tone from the previous contest, in which Hart publicly announced her refusal to run attack ads.

Rep. Altmire, in an interview this morning with wpxi.com’s Scott MacFarlane, said, “That ad has energized my supporters, because clearly she’s running a `sour grapes’ campaign. Certainly, I’m going to face a difficult opponent, because she’s someone who’s held this seat before,” he said.

So, let’s see. Missy

So, let’s see. Missy acts all honorable and such in the last campaign and loudly denounces negative, “attack ads.” Then, after having her pants beaten off, she comes right out of the box with a scathing attack on Altmire? What gives, Melissa? Were you lying about your denunciation of negative ads during the last cycle or are you a flip-flopper? Can’t have it both ways, lady.

And this is such weak, boilerplate blather from the GOP playbook. Does anyone believe this stuff anymore? Maybe so…

But it appears this will be the direction the Hart camp will go; Altmire is a big spender. I figure they’ll pound that drum and the “former lobbyist” thing as well. Later, we’ll probably get into the fact that Jason once had a steam with Teddy Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi and Jane Fonda….

And is it just me, but won’t most semi-reasonable voters make and A-B connection between the BUSH ADMINISTRATION and the ECONOMY? If it were me, I’d hide the financial stuff under a bushel. But what else can she say? The “North Hills votes still haven’t all been counted?”

Nope. Already did that.

Tax and Spend

Maybe Melissa has come up with a reason why neither she nor the incumbent should be elected. Hart voted for every spending bill that W signed into law. That so, she is every bit as bad a spender as Altmeier. Now, I don’t know, but let’s assume that Altmeier would support new taxes. I think that an irresponsible spender who does not support more taxes is worse than an irresponsible spender who at least tries to raise sufficient revenue to cover the spending. The best approach, of course, is to stop the irresponsible spending. But I guess with the United States Congress, that would be like teaching pigs to eat with knives and forks. I would be willing to vote against Altmeier if there were a good alternative. Melissa Hart, who thinks that W and DeLay could do no wrong, and who thinks that the most important issue facing the Congress is to restrict a woman’s reproductive rights, is a worse than poor alternative. And, let me add, I am a Republican.

Hart for 100 year war

Melissa Hart said in an interview she supports the war and the plans of the Republicans. That is right, you elect Melissa and we get the “100 year war”.

Hart Add Misleading

In the add, Melissa Hart is counting votes on bills that never were passed into law. Basically, say Altmire voted for the bill, but it kept dying further along in the process. Then another bill with the same merits comes by (or an altered version of the previous bill), Altmire would in turn vote for that. Melissa counts both bills.

Additionally, the only legislative accomplishments that Melissa Hart had while in congress were to have the pope declared a national hero and having the route to the airport changed to a federal highway. Grant it the federal highway was nice, but all I remember is us having to pay a lot of money for new signs and no real improvements to the road.

As for being a Bush party clone, Hart voted 99.7% of the time in line with GW Bush. Hart wants to continue the Iraq war. Hart has yet to make her viewpoints on Iran known. Hart also is a supporter of US Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan.

Yeah, lets put this person back in office.

Bingo! Missy’s first ad

Bingo! Missy’s first ad (and we wait anxiously for the next bit of trash) is solid GOP playbook bunk. These sorts of commercials are classic. As Anon notes, they are created by a careful conflating of votes and wording that is misleading. But the real question is, will this work in 2008 for Ms. Hart? My sense is that it’ll do nothing but backfire on her…and that, having bungled her last campaign, her consultants will take her deeper into the dirt this time around…ultimately with the same result.

A nationwide sense of ennui exists after years of Bush inflicted lies, mismanagement and thievery. And Missy Hart? She’s part of that. And from what I see on the political landscape, no one wants to go back there…

Liar Liar Pants On Fire

Pilt says “Bingo! Missy’s first ad (and we wait anxiously for the next bit of trash) is solid GOP playbook bunk.”
Liar Liar Pants On Fire!! What’s more out of the playbook then scare old people (Melissa Hart supported Bush’s risky plan to privatize social security.) If those old people had put their money in the market 8 years ago, they would have more money today than they do just getting social security. Why now tell them the whole truth – current soc. sec. receiptants would not have been eligible and those eligible could only put 1% if the 7.45% into a private fund (read the government can’t touch). Even with last week’s losses, the market is only down 200 points with todays 900+ gain. Imagine that, the FREE MARKETS actually work. The only unfortunate thing is that the lies actual work on the dems in PA.

Altmire & Hart both support Bush on war

Democrat Jason Altmire our democrat voted once again to support Bush instead of supporting his 2006 campaign promise. He continuously votes in favor to award Bush his monetary demands regardless the taxpayer amount demanded by Bush but has one hell of a time awarding our Veterans full medical benefits when returning home from war. Makes no difference whether Hart or Altmire is in office he is such a disappointment to the democratic party. None of his campaign promises are true as well.
