Every cent Eula K. Blair took from Bloomfield Township (Crawford County) by writing township checks to herself was money owed to her, the 25-year-old former secretary/treasurer of the township said Thursday. But Blair did not explain what most of the money was for when she took the witness stand in her defense during the third day of her trial on theft charges.
Blair, who lives in Bloomfield Township, is accused of illegally writing township checks to herself between March 2004 and March 2006, and depositing them in her own bank account for her own use.
State police initially accused Blair of taking $10,778.21 from the township by writing 34 checks to herself. But a certified public accountant testified Wednesday that an audit of township books in 2006 found more than 30 questionable checks that totaled $9,123.82.
