Should Hillary continue the fight?

Many people have made very compelling arguments for why Senator Hillary Clinton should drop out of the race for the Presidency. They say it is divisive to the Democratic Party. They say she can’t win. They say that any supervoters that support her are usurping “the will of the people.”

I look at the situation from a different perspective; although I admit to some bias. I am an elected Alternate Delegate, committed to Hillary Clinton. The role of the alternate is rather like an understudy in a Broadway production, just waiting for someone to die or at least eat some bad egg salad. I have also volunteered many hours to help her win in Pennsylvania.  read more »

Manion's Desperate Campaign Strategy

Earlier this week we announced that Thomas Manion had announced his plan to run against Rep. Patrick Murphy in the 8th Congressional district. Many people had criticized Manion for using his son’s death as a political ploy to win votes. I disagree with that assessment since it involves a personal matter for Mr. Manion, one that I am sure is painful to deal with on a daily basis.

What bothers me right now about Mr. Manion’s fleeting campaign so far is his desperate and pathetic attempts to win supporters. Someone from his campaign (or perhaps Manion himself) has been posting pleas for campaign contributions and support on this site. It is fine for his supporters to read out site and make reasoned arguments as to his qualifications for service, but so far they have only cluttered our community with trite spam. We will continue to delete these messages and encourage Mr. Manion to run a campaign like a grown-up.

I have already spoken to a few KP readers that are sending protest contributions to Representative Murphy’s campaign as a result of Thomas Manion’s harebrained blunders.

Then Came Senator Casey… Made Me Leap Without Taking A Look

Last year, activists eager to oust Senator Rick Santorum quickly dismissed concerns about Bob Casey’s troubling stance on stem cell research. Those activists, including some here Keystone Politics, now may have to eat crow as the House’s stem cell research bill is considered by the Senate.

The bill passed overwhelmingly in the U.S. House of Representatives by a margin of 253-174 and is also expected to pass the Senate, just as it did in 2006.

Last year, President Bush vetoed the equivalent of the current Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act. Today, Senate leaders say they have 66 votes lined up to override a presidential veto on the issue; 67 are needed for a successful override.  read more »

Keep your eye on the sparrow when the going gets narrow.

As anyone who knows me can attest, I watch way too much television. Even while I’m working I have the TV on in the background. I could be watching old sitcoms or my soap opera… and of course PCN and CSPAN. In the age of TIVO I can even watch a few shows at the same time while surfing the net and such.

A little over 20 years ago I was doing the same thing, I was a teenager home from school, reading the paper and watching television. I had recently developed an interest in politics, and was following the scandal involving the State Treasurer’s office.  read more »
