What do Matt Shaner & Derek Walker have in common? They have both triggered the millionaire clause as they pursue the PA District 5 primary. They both have close family connections to energy companies in PA: Oil for Shaner and coal for Walker.
Now they also have trouble with the law in common!
First we had Matt Shaner with his unfortunate drinking incident where he drank, drove, wrecked, left the scene, called the DA while hiding in his home from the police, denied wrong doing, to then admit it, pay a fine, and hope that all PA voters would forgive and forget.
Now this breaking story in the CDT (nice job CDT) about his challenger, Derek Walker:

Stalking, burglary charges filed against Congressional candidate
By Pete Bosak and Mike JosephCLEARFIELD — Fifth Congressional District front-runner Derek Walker was charged Thursday with two felonies and four misdemeanors in connection with an incident last August at his former girl friend’s house in Clearfield.
voters_walker...
The criminal complaint, filed in District Judge Richard Ireland’s Clearfield office, charges Walker with burglary and criminal trespass, both felonies, and the misdemeanors criminal attempt, invasion of privacy, disorderly conduct and stalking.
(emphasis above…mine)
The complaint, filed by Clearfield police Chief Jeffrey Rhone and signed by Shaw, accuses Walker of using his cell phone to videotape a former girlfriend in an intimate moment with another man on Aug. 25, 2007. The complaint also alleges that he had contact with her on two other occasions, despite being told by a police officer on Aug. 25 that he should avoid further contact and that charges were pending....
Interesting.
First of all, I don’t think either of these two (Shaner or Walker) should be considered because of their proven lack of judgment in lieu of the law.
Second, I think it very interesting, if true, that Shaner leaked this. Especially as he was just whining about Walker going negative in his ads that expand on Shaner’s troubles with the law.
Walker said his campaign has traced anonymous letters sent to media outlets about the incident to the Shaner campaign. He also said he has not been contacted by police or questioned about the incident in the past “250 days.”A Shaner aide reportedly said Shaner did not initiate the letters or the police investigation.
Seems no one is above negativity, especially the high and mighty GOP candidates.

Hilarious.
Fine by me. Let the Republicans nominate the worst candidate.
No big surprise
Living in Clearfield, rumors about this incident have been swirling for 8 weeks. I don’t think it’s any big secret that Derek definitely did something inappropriate there; the funny part to me is he’s been running a very muddy ad about Shaner re: the DUI, with Derek in church pictures as a contrast.
When one is running for Congress, using daddy’s money to run ad after ad propping yourself up as the ‘god-fearing, church-going all-american boy’ and slamming fellow candidates, perhaps they should remember their own past transgressions.
Hopefully all this negativity and bad judgment will eliminate the rich boys and the Republicans will at least advance a reasonable candidate. I’ll vote for the Dem in the fall regardless, but some of the 9 Republicans at least are left of Santorum.
I do find it mildly amusing that Stete Sen Scarnati endorsed Walker the same day this came out.
Bet Scarnati isn't laughing
Whole lotta bigwigs endorsed Walker and got blindsided by this. At least Shaner’s drinking was “out there” earlier. I’m now thinking Thompson, or possibly “nice guy” Lou Radkowski.
Radkowski's Response
Nice Guy Radkowski responded to the state of the primary today.

Neither is qualified....
It’s good that both Shaner and Walker are getting outed for what they are. Spoiled rich boys who thought they were going to buy a seat in Congress. Hopefully the Republican voters will realize that, despite the fancy ads and mailings, neither Shaner or Walker have the qualifications or morals to serve in Congress.
Radkowski is nice but...
I have seen him speak several times and he is very dull, and does not have innovative ideas that will help the district. Also be wary of Thompson, rumor has it since other candidates wouldn’t go negative for Peterson they didn’t get his endorsement. If something comes out and perhaps what already has come out is a part of that then don’t rule out Peterson trying to play puppet master.
From Radkowski Campaign
I’m working with Lou’s team and we’ll take the constructive criticism. We know there is only a short time left, but there are a number of innovative ideas that Lou’s proposed that the other candidates have not mentioned:
- Working with the District’s local chambers of commerce to enhance cooperation among the towns with an eye towards improving each local economy. Everyone talks about jobs, and these are needed, but the majority of the jobs need to come from the residents of the area. The more a dollar circulates in a community, the more of an impact it will have.
- Partnering with the state legislature to develop a plan to provide university and college tax credits to graduates who choose to remain in-state for their employment.
- Improving our transportation infrastructure by focusing on our railroads and making them a more viable option for travel. The environment will also benefit by taking cars off the roads.
- Lou also has been the only candidate that we can recall to mention domestic oil exploration as a short-term remedy to the problem. He understands that we have a finite amount and we need to look into other options for our fuel.
By all means, please email us at lou@louradkowski.com if you’d like to talk more.
Not the only one
To suggest that Lou is the only one that hs promoted railroads or domestic oil production is blatanly false and it should be noted. I watched and attended three different forums and Lou’s favorite response is “I agree with what (whoever went before him) said.” We need someone who can think for themselves and bring innovative ideas to the table.
Strike three ... he's out!
How about rich boy Stroehmann? Does anyone think he’s honest? Google him and read about his second divorce. Oh my, it doesn’t look like he really is a successful businessman! How would you like this guy to marry your daughter OR be your Congressman?
Pathetic
You are pathetic. I had a divorce that was much worse and read the Sunbury Daily Item and you will see the success that he is having at Moran Industries. I don’t support Stroehmann but I can see a hitman from a mile away. So exactly what camp do you work for, Peterson?
John Peterson is leaving
