UPDATE! I found a pic on Google of his staff drinking in Shaner’s headquarters when he ran for state house! BETTER YET A pic of Shaner at Pickles in November…From my own cell phone. He was stumble, fall down, I-don’t-know-who-I-am drunk when I took this. I was with friends, and were shocked at this behavior from the man that would be State Rep Shaner. Check it out at my home blog: Declarations of Pride.
Question: Is alcohol a critical component to electability in PA 05?
***District 05 House Seat Contender, Matt Shaner may be short of common sense, compassion for the heritage of America, or a degree to prove his commitment to his own education…But he does have this: Tons of Cash!
Today the CDT reported that Shaner, the heir apparent of the Shaner fortune has exceeded $350,000 in personal financing expenditures on his campaign to win the 5th district seat soon to be vacated by Rep John Peterson.
The good news, is that even though Mr Shaner has tons of assets to spend, no amount of money will change the fact that he evaded the law to only later admit he had no business drinking and driving. (By the way, several of my friends in town have spotted him continuing to get hammered in local bars (pickles & champs)). I find this especially telling when Shaner is running as “Mr Family Values” and has a very pregnant wife sitting at home while he gets wasted at a bar. Seems hypocritical to me?!
Anyway, all that money hasn’t bought him an education. Unless there has been something significant change since his failed attempt to get on the PA House, Mr Shaner is a Penn State drop out.
The race for the Republican nomination for the open state House seat in Centre County turned acrimonious Thursday after a Barbara Spencer television commercial and mailer attacked rival Matt Shaner for “quitting” college, and Shaner said Spencer should be “condemned” for the “negative campaign.”The mailing from Spencer, a Navy Reserve officer, says the choice is black and white. It depicts Spencer against a white background and Shaner against a black background. The mailing characterizes him as a “26-year-old political campaign operative” who “failed to earn his college degree after quitting school” and who has no government experience and no experience “serving our country.”
I bring all this up because I am sick of seeing his “values” commercials on TV, but in the absence of any other candidate exposure am fearful that there are many in the PA 05 District that will fall for his hate based approach to America.
He is the worst of the worst! He makes Santorum look like a hack! PA05…Be afraid…Be very afraid!
His values are more plain than he would have you believe. He isn’t interested in “family values.” He is interested in protecting his families value! This is about his bank account and the dynasty he will likely inherit. He wants to make the Bush tax cuts permanent, and overturn the death tax. Those are his only real goals. The rest is fear designed to make you vote for him.
Listen to or believe him at your own peril.

Putting Shaner's spending in perspective from McCrackens Blog
The following was posted on PA-05 Democratic candidate McCracken’s blog:
$350,000 SPENT IN 29 DAYS!!!!
The Centre Daily Times reported today that one of the Republican candidates has spent $350,000 in just 29 days of the campaign. That amounts to $12,068.96 dollars per day. Let’s put this into perspective, a person working at the current federal minimum wage of $5.85 per hour x 40 hours a week x 52 weeks in a year = $12,168 before taxes. Is what you want from your next congressman?

"Death tax" vs. Estate/Inheritance Tax: Exemption is $2 Million
Interesting stuff. But please don’t play into the Republicans’ hands by calling it the “death tax” — it’s actually an estate or inheritance tax.
As United for a Fair Economy points out, “Currently, the net value of an individual’s estate must exceed the basic exemption of $2 million. Couples can exempt $4 million. This exemption level will gradually rise to $3.5 million for an individual ($7 million for a couple) by 2009. Small businesses and farms have long enjoyed additional protections.”
The first $2 million or $4 million inherited is tax-free! And the exemption amount is going up. Most families are NOT affected by the estate tax.
The Shaner family will be!
I would be willing to bet on it…but point made.
