Bath Mayor charged in theft from church

More than $ 9,000 taken. Tally sheets changed. She was caught stealing money on camera, official says.

The Northampton County District Attorney's office has charged Bath's mayor with stealing thousands of dollars from the Sunday collection plate at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

According to court records, detectives in the district attorney's office accused Elizabeth "Betty" Fields, 65, of the 100 block of E. Northampton St., of stealing $9,019 and altering tally sheets over the course of three to four months. Fields was a secretary at the church, 210 E. Northampton St. District Justice William Zaun set unsecured bail at $20,000.

Note: This lady had been the poster child for Republican Charlie Dent's "Democrats for Dent" campaign. She was also used in mailers and TV ads for Dent.
