Democratic candidate Erin McClelland has picked up her biggest endorsement so far in her race to represent PA’s 12th congressional district, from Auditor General Eugene DePasquale.
This is the first major endorsement from a statewide elected official for McClelland, and comes following a week where she secured the endorsement of the Beaver, Cambria, and Westmoreland County Democratic Committees.
“As Auditor General, my first job is to make sure that Pennsylvanians are getting their money’s worth from government. I don’t know anyone who’s happy with how the federal government is spending our tax dollars, especially while this Congress gets nothing done,” said DePasquale. “We deserve better. That’s why we need Erin McClelland in Washington, and why I’m proud to support her campaign for Congress. She knows that working families should come before big donors, and she’s not afraid to take on special interests, partisan extremists, or anyone else who’d put their political goals before the public good. ”
McClelland praised DePasquale’s tenure as the state’s fiscal watchdog, and said that DePasquale’s record is one she seeks to emulate in Washington.
“Across Western Pennsylvania, voters are sick of hearing politicians say there aren’t any solutions to our problems just because folks in Washington can’t think of any,” McClelland said. “Public servants like Auditor General DePasquale fight every day to make sure government works for middle-class families like mine, and that’s exactly the kind of attitude I’m going to bring to Washington.”
McClelland faces fellow Democrat John Hugya in the Democratic primary. The victor will go on to face freshman Republican Congressman Keith Rothfus.
McClelland also has the support of the following organizations, elected officials, and party leaders:
Allegheny County State Representatives Dom Costa, Joe Marksosek, Frank Demody, and Adam Ravenstahl, and Erin Molchany, Beaver County State Representatives Jaret Gibbons and Rob Matzie, Beaver County Commissioner Joe Spanik, Beaver County Commissioner Tony Amadio, Beaver Falls Mayor George Quay, Lawrence County Commissioner Steve Craig, Westmoreland County Commissioner Ted Kopas, Ellwood City Mayor Anthony Court, Beaver County Register of Wills and Clerk of Orphans’ Courts Carol Fiorucci, Lawrence County Council members, Ralph Chippetta and John Todorich, Westmoreland County Democratic Chairman Dante Bertani, Westmoreland County Democratic Committee Executive Director Jesse Walker, the Women’s Campaign Fund, IBEW Local 5, IBEW Local 29, USW Local 1196, the Allegheny County Labor Council, the Beaver County Labor Council, and the Allegheny, Beaver, Cambria, and Westmoreland County Democratic Committees.
