If you view David Cohen as primarily a Democratic political operative, he looks like a huge jerk for publicly backing Tom Corbett for reelection.
But he is not wearing his Democratic Operative hat here, he’s wearing his Comcast Businessman hat. He’s making an educated guess that Tom Corbett’s going to be reelected because all incumbent PA Governors tend to get reelected. He doesn’t want to make Corbett and the majority Republicans angry, because he assumes Comcast will still have to work with them after the 2014 elections.
Here’s the key part of Amy Worden’s article:
Few who attended the most recent event were surprised that Cohen is now using his clout for Corbett.
They said that as the leader of the nation’s biggest cable company, Cohen is a businessman first who recognizes that history has demonstrated that Pennsylvania’s incumbent governors do not often lose reelection.
“He’s a partisan but pragmatic Democrat,” said one corporate executive in Philadelphia, who attended the fund-raiser but would not speak for attribution.
Now hopefully he turns out to be dead wrong, and then after we elect Joe Sestak in 2014 we’ll find a good way to stick it to Cohen like amending the state Constitution to allow a progressive income tax.
